The best video editing apps in 2026

Here are nine iPhone video editors, each picked for what it does best, whether that's free or paid, simple or pro, templates or captions. What we say about other apps comes from their own pages, and each pick says where it falls short.

01 · Method

How we picked

We looked for apps that run on iPhone, get regular updates, and make sense as a first choice for a particular kind of video. Then we read each app's own website, help pages and App Store listing, and noted only what the company says itself about prices, platforms, watermarks and features. When an app doesn't say, we write “not listed”. That means the company doesn't state it, not that the app can't do it.

Prices come from the Greek App Store or the company's own pricing page, and change by country and store. Voxcene's facts come from the version on the App Store today, not from what we're still building.

What we compared

  • Where it runs: iPhone only, or also Android, a computer or the web
  • The free version: watermark, resolution and limits
  • The price: monthly, yearly or once
  • Captions: whether they're automatic, and in which languages
  • What it's best at: templates, a pro timeline, AI or captions

04 · Free vs paid

Free vs paid: what you actually get

If you want to pay nothing at all, iMovie, Edits and VN are free with no watermark, and CapCut is free as long as you avoid its Pro features. For everyday edits, one of those will do.

When you do pay, it's usually for a pro timeline (LumaFusion, once) or for libraries of templates, music and footage (CapCut, VEED). The other reason is AI that saves you time on captions, cutting pauses and ums, turning a long video into clips, or dubbing (Captions, VEED, Voxcene).

Voxcene's free plan is a trial, not a full free editor: 3 projects a month, videos up to 60 seconds, 720p with a watermark. Basic (€8.99 a month) removes the watermark, exports 1080p and takes videos up to 15 minutes. Premium (€17.99 a month) adds 4K, 90-minute videos and 600 AI credits a month for AI Studio, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan.

05 · Where Voxcene fits

Where Voxcene fits, and where it doesn't

Pick another app if…

  • You build videos from trending templates. CapCut's library is far bigger.
  • You need an Android or desktop app. Voxcene runs on iPhone and on the web at studio.voxcene.com.
  • You want a free editor for good. iMovie, Edits and VN are free with no watermark; ours is a trial.
  • You need lip-synced dubbing or stock footage. Voxcene has neither.

Pick Voxcene if…

  • Your videos are people talking. Auto captions in 60+ languages, timed word by word and easy to edit, with 143 caption styles.
  • You want the dull cuts found for you. Filler words and silences are listed before anything is cut.
  • You turn long videos into clips. Long Video to Reels and the podcast editor.
  • You post for a business, or in Greek. Brand kits on Basic and Premium, and captions that get Greek right.

How it works on iPhone

How to choose a video editing app on iPhone

  1. Pick by what you make

Trends and templates: CapCut. Free and simple: iMovie or Edits. A pro timeline: LumaFusion. People talking with captions: Voxcene.

  2. Try it on a real video

All of these apps are free to download. Edit one video you'd post for real, not a demo clip.

  3. Check the export

Look at the watermark, the resolution and the frame rate. This is where free plans differ most.

  4. Check the price in your App Store

Prices change by country and store. Compare the monthly, yearly and one-off options before you subscribe.

  5. Keep your files portable

Save the finished video to Photos. If captions matter, choose an app that also exports subtitle files, such as SRT.
