Formats that work on Shorts

Shorts are watched full screen and on a loop, so a short, vertical video that gets to the point quickly does best. These six are all 9:16 (Reel and Story in the app), and each one runs between 8 and 20 seconds.

  • Tutorial Opener

    Three steps, numbered and clear

    4 clips to replace · 0:15 · Upbeat

Say what they'll learn, then go through steps 1, 2 and 3, numbered on screen.

  • Hook Reel

Grab them in the first two seconds

    3 clips to replace · 0:11 · Phonk · Free

A hook, the story and a call to action in 11 seconds, cut on the beat.

  • Before / After

The transformation, side by side in time

    2 clips to replace · 0:08 · Percussion

Eight seconds and one wipe, so it's short enough to watch twice.

  • Soundbite Cut

Box the interview, blur the rest, hit hard

    4 clips to replace · 0:20 · Percussion

A clip from your long video or podcast, boxed over a blur.

  • Story Time

    A beginning, a middle, a cliffhanger

    3 clips to replace · 0:15 · Lo-fi · Free

Ends on a twist and “Part 2 tomorrow”, which gives people a reason to subscribe.

  • Day In The Life

    Four moments, morning to night

    4 clips to replace · 0:16 · Ambient

A vlog's day in four timestamped moments.

Drawn from the template catalogue in Voxcene 1.2: each template's first placeholder card and its parts to scale. Not a render. The two landscape templates, Vlog Intro and Podcast Clip, can be reframed to 9:16 under Scale. All ten are on video templates.

01 · Hook

Hooks in the first two seconds

A Short is won or lost before the viewer's thumb moves, and the templates are built around that. Hook Reel gives your opening shot 2.3 seconds under a big “WAIT FOR IT”, then cuts on the beat into the story. Soundbite Cut opens on a 2.6-second hook before it dips into your point.

Put your strongest moment in that first part and rewrite the title in your own words, since it's an ordinary text layer. If you're working from your own footage instead, AI Edit on Premium re-cuts a video for the goal Hook — tight and fast. See the auto video editor.

  • Hook Reel: a 2.3-second hook part, titled “WAIT FOR IT”
  • Soundbite Cut: a 2.6-second hook, then a hard dip
  • Every title is a text layer you can rewrite
  • AI Edit: Hook — tight and fast (Premium)

02 · Post

Edit and post

YouTube Shorts puts its buttons down the right side and the title along the bottom. Tap the guides button above the preview and choose Shorts buttons to see what they'll cover, then keep your captions clear of it.

Then Export with the Vertical preset and Choose a cover. The cover can be a moment from the video or a picture of yours, with text on top. The video saves to Photos, and you upload it from the YouTube app. Cutting Shorts from a long video rather than a template? That's long video to Shorts.

  • Shorts buttons guide on the preview
  • Vertical export: 9:16 at 1080p
  • Choose a cover with your own text
  • Saved to Photos, uploaded from YouTube

FAQ

Questions people ask

Does Voxcene have YouTube Shorts templates?

Yes. Six of its ten video templates are vertical 9:16, the shape of a Short: Tutorial Opener, Hook Reel, Before / After, Soundbite Cut, Story Time and Day In The Life. Hook Reel and Story Time are free on every plan; the others open on Basic and Premium.

How long are the templates?

Between 8 and 20 seconds as built, which is well inside a Short. After the build it's an ordinary project, so you can add clips and make it longer, up to your plan's video length.

Can I turn a landscape template into a Short?

Yes. Vlog Intro and Podcast Clip are 16:9; after building one, switch the canvas under Scale to 9:16 and choose Fit with Blurred behind, so the whole picture stays in view.

Is there a library of ready-made hooks?

Not in this version. The hooks are built into the templates: Hook Reel has a 2.3-second opening part with its title, and Soundbite Cut has a 2.6-second hook. On Premium, AI Edit can also re-cut your own video with the goal Hook — tight and fast.

Can I upload to YouTube from Voxcene?

No. Export saves the video to your Photos; upload it from the YouTube app. Next steps can still write a title and description for you to copy.

Will the Shorts buttons cover my text?

Check before you export: the guides button above the preview shows where YouTube Shorts' buttons sit, so you can keep titles, captions and faces clear of them.

Put your best shot first and build from there.
